Ruingasm!
Abandoned insane asylum --- WWW.XYDEXX.COM

It's on my To Do List.

But if I really wanted to go nuts, I'd head to Massachusetts...

Abandoned insane asylum --- WWW.XYDEXX.COM
Abandoned insane asylum --- WWW.XYDEXX.COM
Abandoned insane asylum --- WWW.XYDEXX.COM

...because that state is just full of creepy old abandoned insane asylums.

Abandoned insane asylum in upstate New York. Recently caught fire, unfortunately, so I don't know how much is left.

My first thought too. Huge, strongly-built, classic-looking buildings that most normal folk wouldn't want to live in. Or go near. Or piss on if they were burning.
I'd have one for my corporate headquarters. :3

ZOMG Danvers! :D

Session Nine is kinda scary, but if you're into modern ruins you'll spend more time watching the sets than paying attention to the plot.

Yeah, I have Session Nine on DVD. The movie itself is okay, but being set in an abandoned asylum, how could I not like it? -:)

Much of Danvers has been torn down for development, unfortunately. :(

Has -been- developed. They kept a single original building, which I believe is now administrative of the condo complex they built on the site. Awful thing really. I lived in Danvers until about six months ago.

Have you ever been to Forest Glen, MD. You can almost see it from the B'way near Silver Springs.
I haven't been there in a few years, so I don't know what is still standing.
Used to be a girls school. Was part of Walter Reed Army Hospital for a long while. Recently "redeveloped" into housing.

Yep, seen it and went on the tour ages ago when I used to live in Silver Spring. Fascinating place. I didn't realize they were renovating it. Better than tearing it down, though.

I'd heard they were tearing it down. I've wanted to see it ever since I saw that movie.

Most of it is gone with the exception of the main building which is apparently being renovated.

Shame...it looked like a gorgeous complex. At least part of it's going to remain though.

Do you know if any of these were used in the "Rose Red" movie? Some of them look a lot like the haunted mansion in that film.

Isnt that top photo the building used as the insane asylum outside of Baltimore in Silence of The Lambs?

Probably not. It's in New York, and IMDB doesn't list it as one of the filming locations for Silence of the Lambs.
